Her cousin, Remiel Calcifet , was teaching her at the Galarian embassy in Rustboro City since he had stepped down as the royal ambassador of Galar to pursue being an archaeologist. Since she was getting her feet wet in Galarian politics and the other issues plaguing their country in the aftermath of the Darkest Day, there was a large amount of worry over the current Galarian Prime MInister’s designs over his charismatic personality swaying the people to his favor. [break][break]

No, she’ll worry over it later with her cousin when they would go back to Galar at some point to visit his mother and her other two cousins in Hammerlocke. Right now, the royal ambassador of Galar puts her focus on relaxing herself with going to a fancy-looking steakhouse and grill in Ever Grande City. Chamomile floats near her in making sure that his lady would get his help if she needed it.[break][break]

She's told that the tables are full by the time the duo get inside the restaurant, but the lady in a formal uniform smiles and says that the young dark magenta haired woman can sit on one of the chairs in the little lobby area. Chamomile settles himself onto her lap after the royal ambassador takes a seat in waiting for a table to be freed up since this was a very popular fine dining steakhouse in the city.

A steakhouse was not Julien's first conception of local Hoennian cuisine, but his secretary had insisted it was highly recommended for a sampling of luxury dining in Ever Grande City. However, upon arrival, he discovered that an earlier technical issue had double-booked over his reservation.[break][break]

"I trust your management is working to correct this error?" Julien asked the hostess. Though he suppressed a sigh, his smile was tight, his eyes sharp.[break][break]

"Of course, sir. If you could please wait here for a few minutes. We will call you up when your table is ready." She gestured to the chairs in the lobby.[break][break]

Julien had half a mind to leave and find a different restaurant, but his secretary had taken the day off, and he wasn't about to wander the city without some sort of guide. So he gave the hostess a single nod, his smile widening fractionally, before turning away.[break][break]

The only other person waiting for a table was a magenta-haired woman with a Polteageist in her lap. Julien sat down several chairs away from her to respect her personal space. He rested the ankle of one leg on the opposite knee and checked his watch, committing the current time to memory.[break][break]

If a table didn't open up in ten minutes, he would walk out.

A white-haired man catches her attention while she had to wait to be seated where he kept at a distance a bit away from her. Since she was the royal ambassador of Galar after her elder cousin passed it to her and that Remiel was the one teaching her the things he knew himself, the crown prince had told her time and again to take the Galarian people in mind when she would be under a lot of scrutiny for…improper actions in public. Which also meant she can’t go clubbing and get drunk with any of her friends, that’ll put her as the designated driver if they did.[break][break]

“Pardon me if the silence is a little…off-putting. I was not sure how to approach you on conversation, but…” She trails off while attempting to keep herself together from being too nervous. “Were you also waiting for a table to be open? It’s a little awful they would make you wait.” Clearly, the wait time would be more than enough for one to be patient if she had to go without lunch outside than making it at home.

Julien's head jerked up at the sudden voice interrupting his thoughts. The magenta-haired woman a few seats away stared at him. Her anxiety was obvious, from the stiffness of her posture to the excessive formality of her speech.[break][break]

"Not at all. I prefer silence," Julien said, his own words rolling off his tongue with great self-assuredness.[break][break]

Was it not obvious he was waiting for a table? He was sitting in the waiting area, after all.[break][break]

But instead, he said, "I am. And if they do not free one up in a few minutes, a different restaurant will receive my patronage instead."[break][break]

Pale eyes narrowed at the hostesses conferring with each other nearby. One met his gaze and blushed, her eyes darting back to a hidden computer screen.[break][break]

Julien glanced sidelong at the woman who'd addressed him. He had no way of telling if she was a local or not. "If you have any recommendations in this city, I would hear them," he said, deciding it was worth a shot.

On the other side, this man was being very calm when he spoke of going to a different restaurant if a table didn’t open up in a few minutes. It would make her relax a little and partly because her elder cousin didn’t get nervous on meeting any of the other foreign ambassadors when he was in the office. “I see, hopefully they will be able to free up a table soon.” Her response came with steeling her nerves a little as her Polteageist busied himself with looking over to the hostesses at the counter.[break][break]

Hearing the well-suited man ask if she had any recommendations in the city in terms of restaurants, she hasn’t mapped out much of Evergrande City’s eateries than knowing where the ranger base was. “Aside from a Johtonian seafood restaurant I stop by for lunch at times, I…only know of a few Galarian ones and not much else in Evergrande.” Well, maybe there were more locals who knew of other places than she would.[break][break]

As if on cue though, a family of four would walk out from the dining area and out of the main lobby, so the hostess calls the magenta-haired woman over to let her know a table was finally open. [break][break]

“We don’t have to do much waiting now, thankfully.” A sigh of relief comes from the female royal ambassador as she spoke over to the man.

The woman's answer to Julien's question indicated that she, too, was a visitor to the region like him. The possibility she was a recluse passed through his head, especially considering the nervous energy evident in her mannerisms. However, no recluse traveled to an unfamiliar city just to eat lunch.[break][break]

"I see," Julien said, neither disappointed nor upset.[break][break]

His eyes followed the family of four as they departed, but only for the moment needed to acknowledge the significance of their leaving. He remained seated while a hostess beckoned for the magenta-haired woman to follow.[break][break]

"No, you only have to wait as long as it takes a busser to wipe down the table and set it back up. Enjoy your lunch."[break][break]

Julien checked his watch. Five more minutes, and he would leave.

Listening to the man as he talked about waiting as long as the busser would take to wipe down a table and set it back up, he replied that she should enjoy her lunch. In the middle of their chat, she does remember that she had purely forgotten to introduce herself. Careless that it was, the royal may have been a lot more nervous than she would’ve thought for that one basic thing to do when talking with someone new.[break][break]

While the hostess would be patient to wait for Elise to come to her, the female royal decides to finally do what she had forgotten to do in the first place. “Well, I…do have to apologize that I haven’t properly introduced myself to you, sir. My name is Elise Calcifet, current Galarian royal ambassador of Hoenn.” With that being out of the way, she tries to steel her nerves together for her to continue talking to the well-suited man. “If it would not be too much of an issue for you, would you like to join me at my table?”

Current Galarian royal ambassador of Hoenn?[break][break]

Julien's head snapped up. Pale golden eyes regarded Elise with an unreadable expression, one that lingered for a long moment on her face. Whatever his thoughts were, none came to surface.[break][break]

Finally, he lowered his foot from his knee and, planting it on the floor, stood up in a graceful movement. Then he dipped his head in the modern gesture of a bow toward royalty.[break][break]

"Certainly, Your Highness," he said, his tone giving nothing away. Without acknowledging the hostesses with a single glance, he followed Elise to her table. He pulled her chair out for her and waited for her to sit before taking the chair opposite her.

Seeing the well-dressed man take a graceful step in standing up and giving a bow towards her in the presence of royalty, she stands up from her chair in a subdued movement, yet it was still in the manner of refinement since the young ambassador was a member of the Galarian royalty. Once the taller man follows her to her table when the hostess shows her to it, he pulls a chair for her to sit first as the Galarian ambassador takes her seat.[break][break]

After the man takes his own seat at the table, the female ambassador hears one of the waitresses who came by asking if they wanted anything to drink. “Water please.” With Elise’s reply, the waitress turns towards the well-suited man and asks the same before lunch orders would be taken for their table.

"I'll have water as well," Julien told the waitress. "And the New York strip, medium rare, with a side of seasonal vegetables." Naturally, he had read the menu before arriving.[break][break]

The waitress turned to Elise with her pen poised to take down the princess' order.[break][break]

Afterward, Julien inclined his head toward Elise. "My apologies for not recognizing Your Highness earlier. I am Julien Demassieux, of Snowbelle City. My older brother is the Duke of Snowbelle."[break][break]

He did not assume that a Galarian princess knew every Kalosian noble family and their ancestral homes. However, given that Elise had declared herself an ambassador, it was reasonable to expect her familiarity with the names and cities.[break][break]

Still, the revelation astounded Julien. Nothing about her appearance or demeanor suggested she was royalty or a politician.[break][break]

"I've arrived in Hoenn as the Kalosian ambassador, in fact," he continued, letting none of his surprise show on his face. "So it's an interesting coincidence to meet you like this. I expected a more formal arrangement."[break][break]

The man who was sitting at the opposite of the table did his order while the waitress would turn to her with her notepad ready to write down the royal’s order. “A prime ribeye steak, done medium rare, and a side of mashed potatoes please.” Once the Galarian ambassador’s order was noted down by the waitress and she begins to leave, Elise’s attention would be turned towards the man who introduced himself as Julien Demassieux of Snowbelle City where his older brother was its current Duke.[break][break]

At his other part of his introduction, the reveal of this nobleman being the Kalosian Ambassador made her slightly at ease in holding a conversation…now that she’d have to be professional without showing a bit of meekness. “Oh, I’m sorry that I was…nervous before, Lord Demassieux. It’s good to meet with a fellow ambassador like yourself.” At the other remark that the man made, she gives her reply with a light chuckle. “Yes, it was an interesting coincidence that I’d meet you here than arranging something from my embassy to yours, but I’m a little happy it turned out the way it did.”

To her credit, Elise did not seem surprised or confused by the mention of Julien's surname, his brother's rank, or the Duchy of Snowbelle. In fact, she looked more at ease.[break][break]

Perhaps she was more familiar with Kalosian nobility than he thought.[break][break]

However, Julien did raise an eyebrow at the princess when she first confessed her earlier nervousness, then admitted that their chance encounter made her happy.[break][break]

"And why is that, Your Highness?" he asked.[break][break]

The waitress returned in short order with two glasses of cold water. Julien accepted the drink without glancing at the woman or uttering any thanks.

In spite of trying to relax around the other ambassador, the smaller feeling of anxiety still didn’t go away. Maybe it was because Julien really felt intimidating and invoked the feeling of trying to correct herself in front of an equally important person. In contrast to having any potential meetings with her other elder cousin, the current Prime Minister of Galar, she did imagine that speaking with the Kalosian ambassador himself wasn’t too bad than to get scrutiny from her own family member.[break][break]

She hears the man ask her as her Polteageist relaxes on her lap. “I was just happy that I got to meet you by chance because…while my cousin is personally teaching me, I was also thinking of learning more from an experienced political ambassador.” The female Galarian royal answers with a small nod while the waitress returned with Elise’s own cold glass of water to set it on the royal’s side. “That is…if you would not mind me asking about your experiences, Lord Demassieux.”

Of all the reasons Elise could have given Julien for being happy to meet him by chance instead of by a formal invitation to the Galarian embassy, the one she gave him now made the least sense.[break][break]

He did not react in any confused or appalled way, however, and simply sat back in his chair and crossed his arms over his chest. Nearby, a LUCARIO walked past, carrying a tray of dishes for the table next to theirs.[break][break]

"I do not mind," he said, keeping his tone even. "What do you wish to know?"[break][break]

Julien wondered how much Remiel Calcifet had taught Elise. From what he'd heard in the usual social circles, Remiel was worldly, highly educated, and well-practiced in the art of diplomacy.[break][break]

How strange that he had relinquished his position and chosen a successor that needed on-the-job training.

Though she had only been to two other countries where Johto was where she was born and raised, Kanto didn’t appear to be a country that she’d pay a visit to anytime soon given the situation with its takeover by Team Rocket. The other ambassadors from the other regions, excluding Kanto, may have gone to other countries while she would have to bear the scrutiny of only having to stay in Hoenn. Prime Minister Calcifet did not think highly of how she and Remiel would’ve turned their backs on Galar with staying in Hoenn either…[break][break]

Lord Demassieux gives the royal Galarian ambassador a chance to ask him anything related to his position. “I would like to ask…what do you place as the most important parts of your job as a political ambassador to Kalos?” She asks the older well-dressed man with an eagerness to learn what kind of experience he had under his belt in his own political career.
